Counselling for Trauma

“I thought I’d moved on… but it’s still with me.”

Maybe something from the past keeps resurfacing, or you’re realising how much it has shaped the way you cope, relate, or protect yourself.

You’re carrying more than anyone can see, and it’s exhausting to hold it alone

When trauma lives in the body and mind

Trauma isn't always something you can simply leave in the past. Experiences that have overwhelmed or threatened you can continue to affect how you feel, think, relate to others and respond to the world around you.

You might notice that you're more alert to danger, easily overwhelmed, disconnected from yourself, or finding it difficult to feel safe and settled.

You might find yourself:

  • always on alert
  • overwhelmed by small things
  • shutting down when emotions feel too big
  • avoiding certain people, places, or memories
  • feeling disconnected from yourself
  • carrying shame or self‑blame
  • struggling to trust or feel safe

Trauma shapes how you cope — often quietly, often for years.

Therapy offers a space where you don’t have to hold it alone.

How trauma can show up in daily life

Trauma can weave itself into everyday moments, even when you can’t name it.

You might notice:

  • difficulty relaxing or switching off
  • feeling “too much” or “not enough”
  • emotional numbness or overwhelm
  • people‑pleasing or masking to stay safe
  • burnout from holding everything together
  • a sense of being stuck, lost, or disconnected

These responses aren't personal failings. They may have developed as ways of coping with experiences that felt overwhelming, unsafe or difficult to make sense of. Understanding where these patterns come from can help reduce shame and create space for different ways of responding.

How I support people living with trauma

My approach is gentle, steady, and grounded.

We go at your pace — never faster than your system can manage.

Together, we might explore:

  • what happens when you feel triggered, overwhelmed or unsafe
  • ways of creating greater stability and a sense of safety
  • the parts of yourself you've learned to hide or protect
  • painful experiences at a pace that feels manageable
  • shame, self-blame and beliefs you've carried since what happened
  • ways of coping that support you rather than leave you exhausted

You don’t have to relive everything for therapy to help.

Trauma therapy doesn't have to mean going over every detail of what happened.

We can begin with what you're experiencing now — how the past may be affecting your relationships, emotions, sense of safety, confidence or everyday life.

We'll work at a pace that feels manageable, and you remain in control of what you share.

We focus on what feels safe, manageable, and supportive.

You’re not “too much” - your story makes sense

Many people I work with have spent years being the strong one, the responsible one, or the one who copes quietly.

If that’s you, you’re not alone.

Your reactions make sense.

Your body has been trying to protect you.

Therapy can be a place to finally put some of that weight down.

Practical Details

I offer counselling in person in Greenwich, South East London, as well as online across the UK. You can choose whichever feels more comfortable and accessible for you.

My therapy room is quiet, private, and easy to reach by public transport. If we work together in person, I'll share the full address when we arrange your first session. Online sessions take place via a secure video platform, so you can join from somewhere you feel comfortable and have sufficient privacy

Sessions last 50 minutes, usually at the same time each week. There's no pressure to commit to a set number of sessions — we'll review the work together regularly and make sure it continues to feel supportive and manageable.
