Burnout & Overwhelm

When everything feels like too much

Burnout and overwhelm can creep up slowly or hit all at once. You might be holding too much, caring for too many people, or pushing yourself long past the point of exhaustion. Maybe you’ve been coping alone for a long time, and now even small things feel heavy.

If you’re here, something inside you might be saying: “I can’t keep going like this.”

That’s a completely human place to be.

How burnout and overwhelm can show up

Burnout isn’t just “being tired.” It can affect your whole system — your body, your emotions, and your sense of self.

You might notice:

  • constant exhaustion, even after rest
  • feeling detached, numb, or disconnected
  • irritability or emotional sensitivity
  • difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • feeling like you’re failing, even when you’re doing your best
  • withdrawing from people or things you used to enjoy
  • a sense of dread about work or daily tasks
  • pushing yourself harder because slowing down feels impossible

Many people describe feeling like they’re “running on fumes” or “holding everything together with string.”

Why burnout happens

Burnout often comes from long‑term stress, emotional labour, or carrying responsibilities that were never meant to be carried alone.

It can be linked to:

  • work pressure or unrealistic expectations
  • caring for others without support
  • masking or managing neurodivergence
  • perfectionism or people‑pleasing
  • trauma or chronic stress
  • feeling like you can’t say no
  • living in survival mode for too long

None of this is a personal failure.

It’s a sign your system has been doing too much, for too long, without enough space to breathe.

How I support people experiencing burnout

In therapy, we create a space where you don’t have to be “on,” hold everything together, or push through.

Together, we can:

  • understand what’s draining you
  • explore the patterns that keep you stuck in overwhelm
  • reconnect with your needs, boundaries, and limits
  • soften the pressure you put on yourself
  • rebuild your energy and sense of self
  • find steadier, kinder ways of moving through the world

My approach is gentle, grounded, and collaborative.

You don’t have to fix everything at once — we go at your pace.

If you’re feeling burnt out, you’re not alone

Burnout can make life feel unmanageable, but you don’t have to navigate it by yourself.

Therapy can offer a steady place to pause, breathe, and begin to recover.
