It happens every year. In summer, things slow down in the therapy world. Clients and therapists go on holiday, children are home from school, and sometimes a rest is simply needed.
The calendar thins out. The pace changes. The work shifts.
So how do we make the best of it?
For me, the summer slowdown isn’t wasted time, it’s breathing space. I’m still here, working and supporting my clients. And alongside that, I use this quieter season to deepen my knowledge, reflect on my practice, and consider how to build on what I already offer therapeutically.
And yes, I rest.
There’s something gently comic about the idea of the therapist at ease — trousers rolled up, standing in the surf, cocktail in hand, letting the tide wash around their ankles. Even the most analytical minds need a moment to pause.
The summer slump isn’t a failure of momentum. It’s part of the rhythm of the work, a reminder that rest and reflection are as vital to growth as effort and action.
Still here, still present — just moving with the slower summer tide.
